Now for something different - a music section! :D

Music takes up a surprising chunk of my life, so it's only fair to dedicate a section to it.

Music I listen to#

I listen to a variety of genres which can, in bulk, be described as “internet music”. That is, I know surprisingly little bands outside of weird niche internet musicians, which is something I'll rectify some day. Maybe.

You can check out my music taste on my ListenBrainz (NOTE: ListenBrainz is currently struggling with an influx of new users, so my all-time stats are unavailable, but weeklies kinda work) (or alternatively my last.fm, though I prefer the former as it handles artist renames/tracks with multiple artists better).

I mostly listen to music on SoundCloud, but I also buy albums on Bandcamp. Removed from both of these options… well… uhhh… let's just say I have my ways.

I don't believe in genres (long story), but I typically listen to what I'd describe as hyperpop, digicore (see my unusual distinction between those two typically interchangeable terms), shoegaze/post rock/ambient rock, indietronica.

My own music#

Besides listening to music, I also make my own, in a similar variety of genres! Most of it is just quick sketches and not really full songs, though… I have multiple album ideas that are purely on the concept stage :p 

A good chunk of my output is tracks made for Battle of the Bits - a site where users host quick “battles”, compos where you have to create music (or other kinds of art!) within a set time period (OHBs - one-hour battles - are the most common). I'm uart on there (warning: site is login-walled).

I also have a thread on my personal Fediverse account where I post random snippets, if you'd like a sample of the various types of music I can make :D 

In terms of software - I primarily use FL Studio (for more advanced compositions - digicore beats, anything rock-esque, anything that would require effects, etc.) and OpenMPT (for quick sketches and sample-focused songs - primarily chiptune and jungle/DnB).
